Understanding pensions for sessional GPs

The NHS pension landscape is complex one and can be confusing, so learning about it in straightforward terms is essential to help you understand what is best for you.
This session is intended for all GPs but will be focussed on sessional GPs. It is delivered by specialist healthcare chartered accountants Monahans, and looks at key elements of the various NHS pension schemes and will highlight top tips, and the pitfalls to avoid.

Previous feedback from clients includes:

“Excellent. Honestly the most useful session I have had and should be provided for those at the beginning of their careers so they know what they are doing.”
“Very helpful and detailed session, to help GPs navigate the horrors of the NHS pension scheme.”

The agenda covers:

  • What scheme are you in? – highlighting the different rules of each scheme
  • The McCloud judgement and how this will affect your scheme membership
  • How pension contributions translate to pension growth for sessional GPs
  • Annualisation and the pitfalls
  • How and why to ensure you are paying the ‘right’ amount of pension
  • Type 2 forms and why they are so important
  • Why you should always check your pension record and how it should be updated
  • Ways to enhance your pension
  • Tax effects of being in pension – or opting out

This event is also available on request for groups of practices/PCNs or Local Medical Committees. Please contact enquiries@pcc-cic.org.uk.
