NHS England has published updated editions of Combined CCG & PSS CQUIN Guidance, CCG CQUIN Indicator Specification and Prescribed Specialised Services CQUIN Schemes. These publications provide details about the operation of the Commissioning for Quality and Innovation (CQUIN) scheme for 2019/20. These versions of the documents supersede those published on 7 March.
NHS England and Health Education England (HEE) have produced a new brochure for doctors considering a return to general practice. It sets out the improvements that the NHS Long Term Plan will deliver for general practice, with billions in extra funding and plans to recruit 22,000 health professionals to ease GP workload.
NHS England has published the NHS standard contract for 2019/20 and supporting guidance. Commissioners have been asked to ensure the appropriate national variation is implemented for all existing contracts with effect from 1 April 2019. New contracts are expected to be based on the 2019/20 template with immediate effect.
The Health Foundation think tank says a short-termist approach has resulted in years of declining and inadequate capital spending for the NHS in England, which has put patient care and staff productivity at risk. Its briefing warns that an ageing infrastructure, together with a substantial and growing repairs backlog, is likely to undermine ambitions to transform the health service, including plans to improve cancer survival and make the NHS a world leader in technology-driven care.
