• Extension to community pharmacy urgent medicines advanced service

    Documentation relating to the extension of the NHS urgent medicines advanced services (NUMSAS) pilot has now been published on the NHS England website. Pharmacies do not need to take any action to continue to provide the pilot service. However, all pharmacies and relevant staff should be made aware of the link above and the amended documents available to support the pilot, particularly the updated NUMSAS service specification.

  • GPhC launches consultation on revalidation

    The General Pharmaceutical Council has launched a consultation on proposals to introduce revalidation for pharmacy professionals. This is an important change to what pharmacists and pharmacy technicians must do each year to show that the trust in pharmacy professionals is well placed.

    The proposals have been developed through three years of research and development in collaboration with pharmacy professionals and involving members of the public. A pilot on the proposed changes was run in 2016 with over 1300 volunteers.

  • New resource for prescribers from CPPE

    The Centre for Pharmacy Postgraduate Education (CPPE) has released a new resource for prescribers – Prescribing: Maintaining Competence and Confidence.

    Prescribing is now considered an essential part of a clinical pharmacist’s role. Staying up to date with all aspects of the prescribing process in a rapidly changing health system requires significant, ongoing commitment. CPPE’s prescribing guide has been developed to support pharmacist prescribers to identify their learning needs and signposts them to resources to help meet these needs.

  • Quality payments for community pharmacy

    NHS England has published further guidance on the quality payments scheme.

    The document clarifies how community pharmacy contractors can meet the gateway criteria and details information on how to meet the eight quality criteria. The guidance covers the process to follow including time scales for claiming payments. The new guidance should be read in conjunction with the gateway criteria guidance issued by NHS England on 23 December 2016.
