Reviewing and developing equality impact assessment processes

PCC was asked by a London commissioner to review their equality impact assessments that had been carried out to underpin a PMS review.  The equality impact assessment was reviewed and was found to be lacking in several areas.  The commissioner had broadly undertaken the correct steps but had not recorded how they had assessed the impact of the changes.

PCC worked with the commissioner to ensure that the process they had taken was fully documented and identified where the assessment needed to be more robust.  Actions to undertake a more comprehensive assessment were agreed with the commissioner who managed the actions, documented the process, and the outcomes clearly.  PCC worked with the commissioner throughout the process to embed the knowledge of how to carry out a more rigorous process with the incumbent team.
